About Karen – Mixed Media Artist in the Forest of Dean
Hi, I’m Karen.
I’m a retired Occupational Therapist, and after many years of working with people in very different ways, I now spend my time fully immersed in something I’ve always loved—creating art.
I’m based near the Forest of Dean, where I work from my studio and co-own Butterfly Creations, a small gallery space where my work is displayed.

My Work
My art is rooted in mixed media techniques, often combining paint, texture, and found or broken objects. I’m drawn to materials with history—things that have been discarded, worn, or forgotten—and I enjoy transforming them into something new.
At the heart of everything I create is one simple idea:
Beauty from Brokenness.
Each piece is about transformation—taking what might be overlooked and giving it new meaning, depth, and life.
My Approach
I believe art doesn’t need to be perfect—it just needs to be meaningful.
Whether I’m working on a commission, running a workshop, or helping a dog create their first painting, my focus is always the same: to create something that feels honest, individual, and full of story.
